War, instability, and corruption have plagued Afghanistan for the past fifty years. Afghanistan ranks 169th on both the UNDP's Human Development Index and Transparency International's Corruption Index. The Afghan people can be empowered by job creation and stability- DANDELION aims to create thousands of new jobs and catalyze sustainable and inclusive economic development in Afghanistan.
Each purchase you make from DANDELION will help our artisan weavers earn a higher living wage. We have partnered with two amazing non-governmental organizations to ensure ethical, fair, and sustainable business practices. Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization regenerating the Old City of Kabul, reviving Afghan arts and architecture, and creating jobs, skills, and a renewed sense of national pride for Afghans. STEP is a Swiss non-profit organization promoting fair trade of handmade carpets. As a STEP certified company, DANDELION commits to comply with a comprehensive set of fair trade standards. These include good working and living conditions, fair wages, the prohibition of child labor, and environmentally-friendly production.
We are committed to investing in artisans in Afghanistan. With such a large pool of skilled artisans, we believe that as DANDELION grows, our ability to create transformational change in Afghanistan will become a reality. The artisans are predominantly women, who will provide for their families and become role models within their communities, which will have a multiplier effect on stability and economic growth. These artisans will lead the transformation of a war-torn, fractured nation into a prosperous and beautiful country.
