Providing value to each client is DANDELION’s top priority. We believe in placing the satisfaction of our collectors at the heart of our business strategy. We see interior spaces — a home, office, or hotel lobby — as personal sanctuaries and understand that these spaces reflect the character and taste of its inhabitants. Therefore, our rugs and statement pieces are customizable. We treat our rugs as works of art that complement the unique interior and personal vision of every collector.
The heart of DANDELION is our mission to empower women in Afghanistan. Can women in Afghanistan transform a war-torn, fractured nation into a prosperous and peaceful society? We believe they can. This is why we are investing in each of our artisans. This begins by paying our artisans a fair, living wage so they can provide for their families and serve as role models in their community. With more than 1 million artisans in Afghanistan, there is incredible potential. Our goal is to create thousands of new jobs and catalyze sustainable and inclusive economic development in Afghanistan.

We want to inspire our clients to embrace life to the fullest and to be bold, enthusiastic, and grateful for the beauty of this world. We cherish the role of art in our society and we want to create one-of-a-kind handmade rugs to ignite your passion. Design can foster motivation, community, and ideas. Let's create together.
Founded on the Lower East Side of Manhattan by Matthew Sullivan and John Madtes, DANDELION is the first social impact rug company that specializes in creating unique, contemporary, hand-knotted rugs of the highest quality. DANDELION was conceptualized in 2014 — Matt was working for the United Nations in Afghanistan and noticed the outstanding craftsmanship, detail, and beauty of traditional Afghan weaving. When Matt returned home, he partnered with long-time friend John to build a company that creates economic opportunity, positive impact, and beautiful, artistic statement pieces. They decided that DANDELION would be a different type of rug company; it would create rugs with a message, that double as art, and it would be a catalyst for social change by providing providing opportunity to our artisans who are predominantly women in Afghanistan.
DANDELION aims to protect the environment and maintaining the beauty of this planet. Our handmade rugs are produced with ecologically sustainable components, primarily using cotton, wool, silk, and vegetable-based natural dyes. Our manufacturing is powered by hand and we are continuing to expand our rug recycling program to eliminate waste. Check out our video to better understand how your DANDELION rugs are made.
Few traditions have been unbroken for thousands of years- yet we are privileged to work with such a tradition in rug weaving. Local artisanal techniques have been handed down from generation to generation throughout Afghanistan and the region. We create a bridge between contemporary design and ancient tradition, coalescing craftsmanship and artistic beauty. We are excited to keep this tradition alive by giving artisans opportunities to flourish through our economic empowerment model.
